Stranger #135

Stranger #135

Juan stopped his paleta (ice cream) cart in front of the Taylor, Texas, city pool seeking customers. I asked to take his photo and told him about 100 Strangers. He's been doing the job for the last two summers to help out a friend's Austin-based business. Juan said he's in marketing and the job improves his people skills. He said the overall business is not going well because many of the people who sell from the carts end up being illegal immigrants who abandon the carts when concerned about deportation, and the paletas and cash collected disappear with the carts.

My son's reaction to the ice cream cart reminded me of mine (still) when I hear the song of the ice cream trucks roaming the neighborhood. We bought him a pop shaped like Sponge Bob.

Thanks for posing, Juan!

He is my 135th stranger in the Flickr challenge to shoot photos of 100 strangers: www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/.
