annadelf (away again....but still trying!) has added a photo to the pool:
I met Tara on the corner of Montague Street and Court Street in Brooklyn. I'd had lunch with some friends and we were walking around when one of them commented that there was a farmer's market on this corner on Saturdays. Tara came up and corrected her: the market was on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I thanked her and she blessed me. She seemed like such a friendly, happy lady that I asked her if I could take her portrait. I explained about the Stranger project, and she agreed and backed off. She said something about having broken her leg (she was limping), and while I adjusted my camera settings, I noticed she had bent down to adjust her pants. When I looked up, I saw her posing in a kind of bathing suit pose (see below) revealing her prothesis. I then took her portrait and thought she had a lovely smile. When I showed her the result, she blessed me again, and then gave me some recommendations in self-defense: if someone came up beside me and touched my side..."I'll demonstrate," she said...then I should jump to the side so the offender would understand that I was aware of his intentions, and then leave me alone. No one would mess with me, then! I thanked her again and promised to be careful and off she went!
Tara doesn't have internet, but should she see these photos, I thank her very much for her kindness, and thoughtful care that she showed me.
Any suggestions for improvement are accepted as always. This photo is part of the 100 Stranger challenge. To find out more about the challenge and see other photos, please click on the following link: www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/ .
